Fanfiction is a topic which does not have books or written material on what one must do to write a fanfic, basically saying all the knowledge I can gather on this topic is through my own experience. I could only get information for these pages from my own friends and observations. There are several sites out there dedicated to fanfiction as a genre in itself as well as fanfic sites for Transfiction or Transformers fanfiction. (Personally my favourite.) ;) I made these observations to help find out what most of the archives are like for people to visit and experience. Please read over my reviews of these sites and figure which one might be your best destination. All of these sites I've rated based on my trispheres ( I didn't want to use stars, yawn boring!) The highest each site can get is five trispheres. These are based on the content and user friendliness of each site. Also if it is interesting and not biased.

Can find another site worth your while.
Not the first stop on your list.
Good site, simple.
Above average site, worth a peek.
Outstanding Site, a must visit!!

Fanfix.net

A site which I've never visited before, until looking for info for my project. It only has about nine different categories of fanfiction. Fanfics archived here are all science fiction. The archiver explains this site only holds really good fanfics and is selective. They wish they could hold all fanfics, but that's impossible. The archiver reads each story and gives it a rating out of ten on general readability, grammar and structure. He formats them to fit MS Word 95, standard HTML or TXT files for easy printing. Only 2379 people have been to this site since, April 30, 2000. Included are different genres which are only filled out under TV and films. Things learned from this site: Some fanfic archivers are selective, making it a bit biased. Not all are like this though, most certainly. I've only seen it so far on this site.

Fanfic.net

A site that used to be up, authors of this site got several nasty emails. The angry replies of how the site should be run, forced it to be shut down. You can still see the message up if you want to know how badly it was hit. I put this up under the reviews because I feel that it was a good example of how some writers take criticism too seriously. Archivers don't need that kind of harassment. Things learned from this site: Fanfic authors face a bunch of criticism and comments. Most can cope and use it to better their work, but pressure can corrupt some. Also fanfic archivers need a lot of time to put everything in place. Takes a lot of time and dedication, without any pay, and some people can't understand that.

Fanfiction On The Net

This is a guide to fanfiction, proving things in newsgroups, mailing lists webpages and FTP sites. This site is a record of fanfic sites dedicated to their respected topics. So far this is the biggest list of strictly fanfic sites for thousands of topics. There are 20 choices of fanfic genres based on main categories ranging from TV and books to parodies. This site has a section where links to Fanfic info exists. I've never seen this before. Usually fanfiction must be started on its own and no knowledge of starting up is given. There are articles here to which I have read and find very amusing and interesting. It gave me some insight as to how other people felt on the topic. Only one of them is actually there. It just goes to show you this fanfiction world is very elusive. Most are links to other fanfic sites. This is a huge collection of links, meaning that the archiver doesn't store the actual fics but only hosts the sources of those fics. Too many links to mention, probably over 500. Things learned from this site: Fanfiction can be written for ANYTHING! It's all up to the author's choice. There are no rules to fanfiction. Being an archiver takes a lot of dedication, there is no set rule saying you have to do such a job and you never get paid for what you're doing.

Fanfiction.Net

"Unleash your imagination and free your soul." There are tons of categories and topics here. I noticed it also had a survey for fanfic readers about their age levels. I found the results surprising. The chart I found was helpful in my research. It proves a point that kids aren't the main readers of fanfiction or writers. 60% are between the ages of 10-19. Marketers could look at this and get a good idea of what to aim advertising at. I feel readers are also some of the writers on the site. The majority of TF writers that I know are between the ages of 13 and 24. Hardly any below that.

Things learned from this site: Many of the readers of fanfiction are teenagers and it's nice to see most are finding out it's okay to write for something other than school.

Lexicon

I find this site to be the best in TF fanfiction! Before this site came Charl's TF Fanfic Page. The grandma you could say of this place. It was a grueling 2 years but the TF shrine to fanfiction is up!! It is said that it will hold 1000 TF fanfics, but it looks like it will surpass that level! It just goes to show people love TF and writing frees physical and emotional boundaries. There are several features, from rating fanfics to voting for your favourite so they show up on the top ten. It is really easy to use and you can find hundreds of fics from all levels of TF. Author Details and Author interviews are present here too. They don't just honour fics, but reports, essays and all aspects on TF. Lexicon is an amazing site!!!! Give Charl a visit!
